WHY TEXELS ?
Texel Sheep
Texel Sheep are a moderate sized, white wooled, polled breed with an open face and legs covered only in short hair. The head is characterized by alert, slightly inward-set ears, dark pigmentation around the nose, lips and eyes, and black hooves, adding contrast and supporting the breed's rugged appearance. Texels are uniquely expressive and dense in their muscle type, supporting the breed's reputation for efficiency and durability. They have a well-proportioned build, with a broad back, deep chest, and strong legs ensuring good load-bearing capacity and excellent musculature.
Texel sheep are known for their superior meat quality and fast growth. The contributor to their excellent carcass and the exceptional quality of Texel meat is a single gene, the myostatin gene. This gene may now be found in other sheep breeds due to cross-breeding and selection. Studies have shown that animals with both copies of the myostatin gene can have up to 10% more leg muscle and 10% less fat than animals without the gene.
This Is a Pretty famous picture of standards for carcass conformation grading in Europe.
It is called the “EUROP” system with “E” being the most desirable and “P” being the least.
